It is about time to get some design updates and upgrade to the latest Textpattern release.

First things first, I have updated the copyright statement at the footer. Pixeleden has been ripped few times now and some of those designs are still up live as if they have not received my C & D email.

Following the Creative Commons [CC] guidelines and suggestions, I have changed the usual copyright terms “All Rights Reserved” to “Some Right Reserved.” I am not changing the the CC license I have been using: Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works. I just update to the new version URL.

It has always been my intention to share my design works to inspire others as much as I am inspired by other’s great work.

Be inspired, creative and respectful.

After Pixeleden appeared in CSS Beauty on January 2006, it instantly got two types of reception.

First, Pixeleden got recognized and appeared in numerous Web standards/CSS gallery websites. Among of these are SmashingMagazine, CSS Reboot, CSS Import CSS Mania, CSS Green, CSS Blast (Russia), CSS Drive, CoolHomepages, DesignLinkDatabase (Japan), CSS-Demo (France), ProEstilo (México). I would also like to mention personal blogs that featured my website, Cue.Zusan (Japan), PixelGangster (Germany), Andy Budd (UK), Patrick Haney (Flickr set) and many more that featured PIxeleden which I can not remember at this point. Thank you.

Second, pixeleden has been a victim of disrespect. It has been ripped several times last year and I would like to thank the people who took time to report these sightings: Denford.dk, Catholic.Net, Zygmunt Legutko, Marcel.Tv, Enstyled. I would like to stress out again that my site, its photography and all of its design elements are under full copyrights.

Fusion Beta 23.12.06

VMWare announced today that the Fusion beta program is now live.

The new VMware desktop product for the Mac, codenamed Fusion, allows Intel-based Macs to run x86 operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, NetWare and Solaris, in virtual machines at the same time as Mac OS X. It is built on VMware’s rock-solid and advanced desktop virtualization platform that is used by over four million users today.

If you sign up for the beta program earlier you can access to donwload the Fusion beta and other information regarding the release here. Otherwise you can will need to sign up first.

I am eager to test it and see if it can match Parallels Desktop both on speed and stability.

I would love to hear your test drive result.

Update: I finally got to download the installer after signing up again. Installation is a breeze and my first impressions are very good. The UI is a lot better than Parallels! Take a look on the screenshots I took during the installation.

Gmail the Great 10.12.06

Comment [3]

When I started using Gmail as my primary email, I could only wish that I can suck all my other web mail into it. With its simple interface and integration with other nifty Google apps/services, how can you go back to Yahoo! and Hotmail annoyingly ads-filled pages? Of course I would like to keep my other email addresses for both identity and sentimental reasons.

Finally, Google has added a feature to Gmail called Mail Fetcher. It allows you to fetch mail from any of your other, non-Gmail accounts.

Get mail from other accounts
Now Gmail can check for the mail you receive at your other email accounts. You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail. Then you can even create a customized ‘From:’ address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts.

Mail Fetcher addition to Gmail special features makes it undisputedly the best email service. It comes with built-in Google search technology and over 2,600 megabytes of storage (and counting every day). The integrated GTalk instant messaging right into the email is always handy when you are remote in an internet shop and working only in a browser. Here are the additional info on why would you use Gmail.

Thanks Google and looking forward for more!

Grand Style 1.11.06

I love text formatting. Whenever I post to Basecamp, I make sure my messages are set out. I am delighted to see that Textpattern utilizes Textile. I am unaware of using for quite sometime now. Publishing here is just like posting at my project collaboration sites!

Why is text formatting a necessity?

Whether you prefer a WYSIWYG editor or elegant styling via markup, formatting a chunk of text makes a lot of difference. Your site’s content could be a powerful interface only if you set out the presentation properly.

Semantic presentation drives your goal to your audience. It is like speaking and putting emphasis on certain words that you think will identify your main message and reinforce that message once it has been nailed down. Same effect can be achieved on writing with proper and logical text styling, not for style’s sake, but for meaning. It is imperative to set your goals first , then styling will become a second nature.

Fear not because there are no hard rules on text formatting only failures if you did not get your intended message across.

How do you style for meaning?

Start Small 21.10.06

Yes, the site is currently a work in progress. I am very excited on the latest release of Textpattern (4.0.4) and has finally decided to use it here at Pixeleden. I will be writing another post why I picked Textpattern among the popular CMS/blogging platform.

As I get my feet wet, I am learning a lot of cool things and loving it. Designing my garden of pixels is an ongoing process. By the ways, that is half the fun of it! The other half will be all the goodness it produce.

Thanks for dropping by and stay tuned!

CSS Beautified 20.10.06

I am pleased and honored for Pixeleden to be in CSS Beauty January 2006 Gallery. Truly inspirational to start the year! My thanks to all the people who took the time to visit and dropped their kind words.
